Covid-19 cases and casualties have been increasing since the first case was recorded officially on the 11th of March in Turkey.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, most of the companies started to force workers to use their annual leaves or to take non-paid leaves to take advantage of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

Workers of Klimasan, which works with big corporations such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Efes and Tuborg in Turkey's Manisa, reported to the "We Breathe Down the Bosses’ Neck” solidarity network, which was initiated by the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), that precautions are not effectively executed against Covid-19 pandemic in the factory with 1600 worker capacity.

Several precautions were taken for "show only" in Klimasan, workers reported, and not for protecting the workers from the pandemic, but also ease the spread of the disease.

The shift patterns were changed after the disease and have made the workers who end the nightshift wait for almost one hour during the cold due to the disinfection of the production side, workers said. This practice makes workers wait for almost an hour, in cold weather, without any precautions, which also creates a suitable environment for the disease to spread.

Some workers shared the images of the shift change scene in social media. Despite taking measures against Covid-19, Klimasan decided to reveal which workers exposed the inhumane and irrational practices of the company.

Klimasan is not the only production center in Manisa Organized Industrial Site. Several other factories are also reported for the insufficient measures against the Covid-19 pandemic by the workers, who are worried about being infected and feared from losing their jobs.

Workers demand the necessary measures to be taken for their wellbeing, paid leaves if necessary, and assurance for their jobs and wages.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 670, while the death toll rises to 9 in Turkey.
