Turkish government announces new restrictions

Turkey’s President and chair of the ruling AKP, Erdoğan, made a statement on Tuesday after the Presidential Cabinet meeting, in which new measures regarding the pandemic were discussed.

Here are the measures that Erdoğan announced regarding the pandemic:

-There will be a lockdown on weekends except between 10:00-20:00 so that supply and production chains will not get disrupted.

-Shopping malls, markets, restaurants, barbershops, and hairdressers will be open between 10:00-20:00. Restaurants and cafes will only provide delivery services, while coffeehouses will remain closed.

-Movie theaters will remain closed until the end of the year, in accordance with the request of the industry.

-Schools will remain closed until the end of the year, and education will continue online.

-The partial lockdown in effect for the people aged over 65 (only between 10:00-16:00 are allowed) has also been expanded to include those under 20, with the exception of the ones who have to go to work.

-All sports competitions will continue to be held without fans while football fields will remain closed.

-Working hours in the public and private sector will be arranged flexibly to avoid high intensity.
