A car bomb exploded near a state hospital in southeastern Şanlıurfa province on Friday, according to a security source. The incident took place in the province's Suruç district, the source told state-run Anadolu Agency.
Police in the district police headquarters opened fire on a suspected bomb-laden car after it refused to obey stop calls in the evening hours.
According to preliminary reports, an assailant was killed in the blast.
Suruç was the scene of a suicide bomb attack by the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group on July 20 2015, which claimed a total of 34 lives, mostly leftist young people.
