Turkey's government excluded the theory of evolution from the curriculum but children learned about the theory at the Natural History Museum in the city of İzmir.
As part of the science workshop for children proceeding in Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in İzmir, around 100 children participated in the public lecture on the theory of evolution by Associate Professor Serdar Mayda from Ege University. The children had the chance to learn about a variety of topics ranging from the evolutionary history of human species to development of the human brain.
Workshop coordinators stated that regardless of the efforts of the government to eradicate the theory of evolution from the curriculum, it will be conveyed to the young generation.
Prior to the exclusion of the theory of evolution from the curriculum, the government had a systematic attack on it. Recently, the section of primate evolution at the Natural History Museum in Ankara was dismantled.
