Culture and art workers, who found themselves unemployed when the pandemic broke out, came together in front of the Provincial Cultural Directorates in Istanbul and Ankara to voice  their problems.

Culture and Art Workers organised within the “We Breathe Down The Bosses Neck (PE) Solidarity Network”, stated that they were already faced with uninsured, insecure work conditions in the “normal” period, then they struggled to survive the pandemic, and the financial support provided then was far too short from solving their problems.

Due to all these reasons, the culture and arts workers stated they will come together to address a petition with their requests to the relevant institution. "We invite you to a press briefing we will make in front of the Provincial Cultural Directorates on Thursday, January 28, at 14:00."

Their announcement in full is below:

PE Culture and Art Workers Solidarity Network is calling for  struggle!

We are here together to support each other and claim our rights.

We fight together against volunteer work, indifference and insecurity, undefined and arbitrary conditions, non-unionism, occupational / humanitarian rights oppression and unemployment.

Step by step, we are building a labor solidarity, that will disrupt the effect of impoverishment and isolation in the fields of culture and arts.

The subsidies announced to be made for culture and arts workers throughout the epidemic were unrealistic and unacceptable "supports" that could not be a solution to the problems of workers in the sector who lost their income almost completely during the pandemic period.

We call on all culture and arts workers to get organized in order to raise the solidarity and struggle not only in the epidemic, but in this system where the crisis is intensifying and everything inhumane is normalized.

We, the culture and arts workers, invite you to a press briefing we will make in front of the Provincial Cultural Directorates on Thursday, January 28, at 14:00, to address our demands.

WE REQUEST!

1 - We demand a realistic financial support that we can live on during the pandemic period!

2 - During and after the epidemic, we demand humane living, shelter and our health assistance to be ensured!

3 - We demand that uninsured and socially unsafe work conditions, which has been accepted as "normal" in our sector for years, be eliminated!

4 - We demand that our job opportunities be increased and  solutions to our employment problems be found.

Human health first, labor rights first! We emphasize these points in the first place and invite all culture and arts workers to get organized so we all get our rights!

Going arm in arm, standing side by side, taking care of our interests, standing tall against exploitation, is not a matter of gallantry, it is a matter of life and death!

Let's get organized!

Let's raise our solidarity!

Let's fight together in  Culture and Art Workers Solidarity Network!
