Court acquits Islamic State suspect despite massacre videos found in his phone

While Turkey detains hundreds of Islamic State suspects, only a fraction of those are in prison

21-year-old Syrian Abdurrahman M. A. was detained in the Turkish city of Antalya last year during an operation against Islamic State. Police found videos of massacres in Syria on the phone of the Islamic State suspect.

Abdurrahman M. A., released after 5 months in prison. Syrian Islamic State suspect did not accept charges against him. "I saved these videos on my phone to show how people suffer from the violence of Islamic State," he told the court in his testimony.

After his release, Abdurrahman M. A. said he felt secure in Turkey and he would "be afraid if he was in Syria". While Turkey detains hundreds of Islamic State suspects, only a fraction of those are in prison. Turkey releases most suspects after a short detention.
