A Turkish meteorology and disaster relief expert has criticized thousands of Istanbul residents who took precautions to protect their cars but failed to heed other warnings about extreme weather, as Turkey largest city braced for torrential rain and hail storms on June 26, Hürriyet Daily News reported.

"What a nation we are! I am warning about torrential rains, hail storm lightening an tornados but people only care about the hail storm. They may die in a flood or be hit by lightning or a tornado but they don't care about their own lives. Their cars are more important! Damn your cars, OK?" Kadıoğlu was quoted as saying by Hürriyet.

Local news agencies had published photos and videos of Istanbulers who moved their cars in closed areas or covered them with the protective sheets, some using even beds, the report said.
