Turkey’s Peace Committee, the peace organization of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), released a statement on December 7 regarding the U.S. President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The Peace Committee emphasizes that the recent U.S. step has come at a time when the U.S.-led Western imperialism faces significant problems in the Middle East, adding that the recent imperialists steps with "moderate Islam" and the "Arab Spring" failed due to the Syrian people's heroic resistance and some other big capitalist forces' interventions.

"There are disagreements in some important issues between the U.S. and leading powers of Europe. The issue of Jerusalem has become yet another issue in addition to that of Russia and Iran," the Peace Committee statement reads, indicating to the intra-imperialist problems and contradictions.

Hailing the resistance of the Palestinian people, the Peace Committee emphasizes that no fair solution is possible without recognizing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and with borders drawn in accordance to the borders of pre-1967.

"All the Palestinian political prisoners must be released and all the refugees should return their homelands. Israel’s illegal settlements must come to an end immediately. Israel must unconditionally withdraw from the territories it occupied in Syria and Lebanon," the statement continues.

Declaring that it will continue to act in solidarity with the Palestinian and Israeli peace forces, Turkey's Peace Committee concludes that imperialism will be defeated and Palestine will win through the joint struggle of peoples.

WORLD PEACE COUNCIL CONDEMNS U.S.' DECISION

The World Peace Council (WPC) also made a statement, strongly condemning the decision of the U.S. President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

"The US decision is a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions on the status of the city as part of occupied Palestinian territories. The decision is a proof of the bias of the leader of world imperialists and of his open support to the Israeli occupation and of its continuation," the WPC statement reads.

Pointing out to the right for the return of the refugees according to the UN resolution 194 and the release of all Palestinian political prisoners from Israeli jails, the WPC concludes the statement with demanding the recognition of Palestine as a full member State of the UN.
