Communist Party of Turkey: Only under socialism Jerusalem can be the capital of peace

"Communist Party of Turkey strongly condemns the US president’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and highlights that this is an utterly provocative attempt. Provocations can be circumvented only through the joint political action of peoples"

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) has released a statement on December 7, condemning U.S. President Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The United States officially recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will start the process of relocating the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, US President Donald Trump said in a statement on Wednesday.

TKP: ONLY UNDER SOCIALISM JERUSALEM CAN BE THE CAPITAL OF PEACE

Titled as "only under socialism Jerusalem can be the capital of peace", the TKP statement clearly argues that U.S. President Trump’s decision lacks any certain strategy on the Palestinian issue. "Trump’s Jerusalem initiative is an attempt to kill two birds with one stone, i.e. to allow the US to take the initiative in the region on the one hand and to provoke the region in order to save his own skin on the other," the statement reads, adding that such an attempt is doomed to failure, yet another fiasco for the U.S. imperialism.

Recalling the specific status of Jerusalem in accordance with international agreements and the United Nations documents, the TKP emphasizes that the U.S. and Israel have sabotaged the status of East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent state of Palestine.

The TKP underlines that declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel cannot gain recognition due to the impossibility of assembling a coalition with other imperialist and regional powers to legitimize such a decision, adding that imperialism is doomed to failure since it miscalculates the secular and patriotic resistance in the region and the forces of peace in Israel.

TKP: DEMAGOGIC ISLAMISTS LIKE PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN HAVE NO LEGITIMACY

The TKP statement points out to the demagogy of Islamist and reactionary political powers as well, above all Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP). "Tayyip Erdoğan is not embracing the seemingly anti-Israeli demagogy today for the first time. Erdoğan’s defiance is nothing but an empty threat. Just as it was years ago in Davos, during Israel’s blockade of Gaza," the statement continues, adding that the continuation of military cooperation between Turkey and Israel proved that this old demagogy was nothing but empty words.

Recalling that Turkey’s AKP government and the Israeli government perpetrated the massacres of the Islamic State particularly in Syria, the TKP statement says, "The fact that reactionism employs Islamist bigotry in Turkey and Jewish bigotry in Israel does not make any difference."

Indicating that only under socialism Jerusalem can be a centre where peoples of diverse cultures, faiths and languages live in peace, the TKP apparently declares that "The last assault of imperialism and Zionism shall not be an excuse to put other demands in front of the fight for peace and socialism. On the contrary, the fact that the threat of war could not be staved off so far proves that putting off the fight for socialism is a profound fallacy."

CONCRETE DEMANDS FROM THE TKP

Taking all these facts into consideration, the TKP demands;

Putting an end to the occupation,
An independent and sovereign state of Palestine in accordance to the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital,
The Palestinian state as full member to the UN,
Putting an end to the Israeli military invasion on Syrian and Lebanese territories,
Lifting the blockade on Gaza unconditionally and immediately,
Abolishing illegal Jewish settlements on Palestinian territories,
Destruction of the wall of shame surrounding Palestine,
Enabling Palestinian refugees forced to leave their homes to return their lands,
Releasing all the political prisoners in the Israeli prison.

"We repeat our solidarity with the toiling masses of Palestine, the forces of peace in Israel, and all oppressed, patriotic peoples of our region, and we hail the working classes of Israel and Palestine and the revolutionary, communist and peace-loving forces of the resistance who represent them," the Communist Party of Turkey concludes the statement.
