With the "Regulation on Private Student Accommodation Services" prepared by the Ministry of National Education, a new term starts in the licenses and permits of the accommodation areas for the students.

The reason for the new regulation is that authorities see two students staying together as “undesirable.” Therefore, rooms have to accommodate one or three, four, five or six students.

Hüseyin Yıldızhan, the President of Federation of Private Student Dormitories, said that the dormitories will be obliged to receive licenses and permits from the Ministry of National Education. He stated that only one or more than two students can stay in the same room of the dormitories and two students staying in the same room is considered unfavourable according to the new regulation.

The private places where students stay have to be located more than 100 meters away from the markets that sell alcoholic drinks, coffee shops and entertainment centres; otherwise, they cannot get a license. Following the amendment of the regulation, teams formed by the provincial education directorates will control the dormitories and the university administration will know where the students stay.

Male staff will not be able to work in girls’ dormitories and likewise, women will be forbidden to work in dormitories for boys.
