According to the data of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the number of millionaires who reside in Turkey increased by 66,800 people in 9 months, adding 536 billion 599 million TL (~ 63 billion 727 million $) to their wealth. Thus, the wealth of 268,820 domestic depositors who have deposits of 1 million TL and above in banks increased by 41.4 percent compared to the beginning of the year, reaching 1 trillion 831 billion 726 million TL (~ 217 billion 537 million $).
According to the news of Mehtap Özcan Ertürk from Sözcü daily, a center-right nationalist newspaper, the rapid enrichment in 2020, which passed with the epidemic, draws attention with the increase of 24 thousand 89 people and 142 billion 477 million TL (~16 billion 920 million $) when compared in the same period of 2019. Thus, 64.6 TL (~7.6 $) of every 100 TL (~11.8$) of wealth accumulated in the accounts of domestic residents in 9 months went into the pockets of millionaires.
The total savings accumulated in TL, foreign exchange deposits, and precious metal deposit accounts reached 3 trillion 218.7 billion TL (~382 billion 255 million $) as of September 2020. This amount indicated an increase of 830 billion 311 million TL (~98 billion 608 million $) in 9 months. Thus, the share of millionaires in the deposit pie increased to 56.9 percent.
In the first 9 months, 807 billion 548 million TL (~95 billion 904 million $) of the deposits of the resident millionaires were in TL, 969 billion 261 million TL (~115 billion 110 million $) in foreign currency deposit accounts, 54 billion 918 million TL (~6 billion 552 million $) in precious metal deposit accounts. When the 127 billion (~15 billion 82 million $) deposits in the accounts of 32 thousand 744 depositors living abroad were added to the domestic residents, the number of millionaires reached 301 thousand 564 and the total deposits reached 1 trillion 958 billion 816 million TL (~232 billion 630 million $). Thus, the average deposit per millionaire was calculated as 11 million 420 thousand 866 TL (~1 million 356 thousand $).
