The Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) revealed that many areas assigned as earthquake assembly areas in İstanbul are now home to shopping malls and business centers.

TMMOB İstanbul Coordination Commission recently revealed that people living in İstanbul are in danger since two out of three earthquake public evacuation assembly areas can no longer be used as assembly areas.

İstanbul has been a profitable place for the rent-seeking capitalists who are supported by the Turkish government and local governments for years. According to a video prepared by TMMOB, earthquake public evacuation assembly areas have been the top places that have been utilized by rent-seeking activities.

According to TMMOB, there are shopping malls and business centers in 300 out of 470 areas assigned as earthquake evacuation areas in İstanbul.
