After yesterday's meeting in Turkish President Erdoğan's palace, the Turkish government announced shutting down of schools for 2 weeks and universities for 3 weeks.
The presidential spokesman, İbrahim Kalın, made a press release after the meeting, stating the decisions to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country. According to the official announcements, primary, middle and high schools will have a one-week holiday as of March 16 and will start distance education from March 23 for another week.
Moreover, the universities will have a three week holiday. Sports events will be held without spectators until end-April. Public officials' international travels will be subject to permission.
Early in the morning today, the Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced that the second case of coronavirus in the country has been confirmed.
Despite the measures that shut down educational institutions, the Directorate of Religious Affairs denied the allegations that the Friday prayers, mass religious congregations held in mosques, will be canceled this week.
