PETKIM workers in Aliağa refinery in Izmir metropolis commenced an indefinite strike action over disputes on the collective labour agreement. In last April, workers of the STAR refinery, which is an investment of Azerbaijani oil monopoly SOCAR, were transferred to PETKIM and they are being paid higher salaries than the PETKIM workers.

Currently, PETKIM workers demand the wage gap to be abolished, equal payment and a raise in general salary increases.

After the start of the strike action in the early hours, the workers were threatened by the police. However, the workers were determined not to give in and announced that the strike action will continue indefinitely until they reach a consensus on the collective labour agreement.
