Turkey's communists visit refugee gathering places in Edirne: "Borders are not open, people are not friendly"

A delegation of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) paid visits in Turkey's Edirne in order to observe the situation on the spot and establish contacts upon the “refugee crisis”, AKP’s recent move.

A group from the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) has conducted observations around the Pazarkule border gate, Karaağaç and Doryan border villages and central Edirne in Turkey. Being informed by the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) branch in the region, the TKP committee also informed certain institutions on the aid material they are to provide in the coming days.

Following the appeal “We are opening the gates” of AKP, thousands of refugees who flooded into Edirne struggle for survival throughout the borderline.

On Wednesday, the TKP group also visited Edirne in order to evaluate the situation throughout the borderline regarding the problems and needs of the refugees.

At first, the TKP committee reached the point where the gendarmerie barricade blocks the road near the Pazarkule border gate.

After gathering information regarding developments in the region, the group had some intel on wounded refugees taken back to hospitals by ambulance.

Following the investigations in Karaağaç location, the committee headed to TTB Edirne Branch. They have shared their first impression In the city as they were corresponded by one TTB Edirne General Assembly member. Informing the respondent about the Party’s call for aid material for refugees, the TKP members then contacted the City Council and paid a visit to Doyran village.

Making a statement after interviewing refugees in the village on behalf of TKP, Party’s Central Committee Member Senem Doruk İnam said the refugees were allowed neither to return their recent place in Turkey nor to pass through the border towards Greece. The committee headed to the interprovincial bus terminal of Edirne following their investigations in the area.

Ranging around the terminal, the group was informed on the general health condition of the city from the TTB committee who was also on duty on the spot. The TTB group mentioned that quick steps should be taken with respect to priority measures regarding people’s health in the city.

Following the aforementioned events, TKP has recently declared unconditional solidarity with refugees condemning xenophobia amongst the working classes. The declaration also involved grim critic of hypocritical governmental policies provoking peoples against each other and using the refugees as a winning tool against Europe. Communists of Turkey also called on working people of Turkey to aid the refugees and provide supplies and goods to the area through District Houses and provincial branches of the Party which are assumed to arrive on the spot soon.
