Peace Association of Turkey and the Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace (EEDYE) made a statement about the recent Aegean dispute related to Imia/Kardak which is a pair of two small uninhabited islets in the Aegean Sea.

In the statements after the crisis in Kardak, Peace Association of Turkey and the Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace (EEDYE) have called for a common struggle and the termination of the tensions in the Aegean Sea.

In the statement made by the Peace Association of Turkey, it was asked to terminate the tensions in Kardak, saying that "The Aegean Sea should be the sea where peace and fraternity prevail, not hostility".

On the other hand, the Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace (EEDYE) called for strengthening the common struggle against imperialist plans and against the Greek involvement.

THE TENSIONS IN THE AEGEAN SEA MUST BE TERMINATED

In the statement made by the Peace Association regarding the escalating tensions in the Aegean Sea, it is determined that "as far as it seems, the Aegean question, which has been used as an instrument for escalating chauvinistic sentiments among the laborers of Greece and Turkey over the years, will be reheated. These chauvinistic feelings enabled the bourgeois governments of the two countries to incite nationalist tendencies, and use them to maintain the continuity of their political power and to consolidate the domination of bourgeoisie over Turkish and Greek working classes. This situation, of course, was shaped under the control of imperialism."

The statement of the Peace Association of Turkey also calls Greek and Turkish working classes to protect the values of peace. "The peoples of the two countries should not allow this game. The Aegean Sea should be the sea where peace and fraternity prevail, not hostility," said the statement.

"LET US STRENGTHEN THE COMMON STRUGGLE"

"The ruling classes of the imperialist states and of the states of the region, amongst them the ones of Greece and Turkey, are being part of the game by emphasizing the dangerous character of the continuous violations of the air and maritime space of Greece, the challenging of the Lausanne Treaty regarding the Greek-Turkish borders and the threats of Turkey regarding the non-extradition of the Turkish officers who fled in July to Greece, by the Supreme Court," the Greek Committee for International Détente and Peace (EEDYE) said in the statement.

EEDYE said that the rising tensions in the Aegean Sea crush the myths about security and stability supposedly provided by NATO and the European Union after the violations of Turkey just in front of NATO and EU steering Turkey’s aggressiveness.

In the statement, it is determined that both the peoples of Turkey and Greece have the common enemies which are the ruling classes wanting the peoples of both countries to subservient to their plans, by calling for strengthening the common struggle against the imperialist plans and against Greek involvement.
