Trustees appointed to 8 HDP municipalities in Turkey's southeast

Government trustees have been appointed to Batman city municipality and seven other district municipalities of Diyarbakır, Iğdır, and Siirt held by HDP. The current mayors of four municipalities were taken into custody.

Government trustees have been appointed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to Batman city municipality, Diyarbakır's district municipalities of Ergani, Eğil, Lice, Silvan, Iğdır's district municipality of Halfeli, and Siirt's district municipality of Gökçebağ held by the pro-Kurdish HDP's elected mayors in eastern Turkey.

Four of the municipalities were surrounded by a police blockade and the current mayors were taken into custody the day before.

TRUSTEES APPOINTED TO 36 MUNICIPALITIES 

During the regional elections held on March 31, HDP won a total of 65 municipalities including 3 metropolitan, 5 city, 45 district and 12 town municipalities.

With the latest appointment of trustees, a total of 3 metropolitan, 1 city, 29 district and 3 town municipalities were taken from HDP by appointing government trustees.
