Communist Party of Turkey’s (TKP) İstanbul metropolitan municipality mayoral candidate Zehra Güner Karaoğlu and Beyoğlu municipality council candidate Orhan Aydın held a meeting with the people of Beyoğlu just before the local elections.

Zehra Güner Karaoğlu took the first floor of the event and stated “While the ruling parties guard the collapsing order, the political line represented by the TKP is the only hope of the workers. ‘Let the AKP go, but rent-seeking should continue, the looting should continue, and, if it is necessary, let a contractor become the mayor': These ideas have no provision anymore. If the TKP was a powerless party, it would pursue unprincipled alliances. TKP is not a weak party. Only the communists can govern this city. Only the communists can make this city a place to live humanely.”

TKP Beyoğlu municipality council candidate Orhan Aydın started his speech by reminding the resistance of the workers of Flormar and said that the workers who had stood up for their right to unionize should inspire the working class. He stated that the communists now have the opportunity to spread the model in Turkey's Ovacık in the local elections to other regions of Turkey.

TKP candidates also came together with the committee of cafe-bar workers in Kadıköy. Kadıköy municipality council candidate, a café-bar worker, Aziz Barkın Kadıoğlu emphasized that Kadıköy is where everyone comes to relax, to entertain, but the main owners of Kadıköy are the working people here and talked about what can be done to come together, to act in solidarity and to fight.

Another election meeting was held in Beykoz district of İstanbul. The opening speech was made by the municipality council candidate Baran Bol. Then, Aydemir Güler and Beykoz mayoral candidate Murat Dilek spoke.

MEETINGS IN KOCAELI, IZMIR AND ANKARA

TKP also organized a gathering in Yahya Kaptan District of Kocaeli. TKP Kocaeli metropolitan mayoral candidate Mustafa Tozkoparan said “Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality was granted 16 billion liras. But it is the most indebted municipality in Turkey. So we are asking: Where did this money go?"

“They are using the municipalities to make some people rich. We are going to be there to say no,” Tozkoparan added.

TKP İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Candidate Senem Doruk İnam met with working people living in Hatay district on March 27.

TKP Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Candidate Fatma Korur visited the Ankara branch of the Chamber of Architects. The branch’s president, a board member, and the branch secretary welcomed Korur. She explained the principles and objectives of the solutions of Ankara's problems. During the visit, ideas were exchanged about the local elections and the importance of the chambers in this process.
