Trade union leaders and delegates representing workers of Textile, Garment, and Leather sectors from more than 20 countries all over the world participated in the Founding Congress of the TUI Textile Garment Leather of WFTU that kicked off on Friday, March 6, in Cairo, Egypt.

The founding of the TUI Textile Garment and Leather is a new important organizational step forward and the trade unions’ struggles of the respective sectors, World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) announced.

The Textile Committee of the “PE-Breathe down the bosses neck” solidarity network of Turkey has sent a solidarity message to the founding congress in Cairo, noting that although a delegation was formed by a group of Çelik Nakış-Steel Embroidery workers in İzmir, the delegation was not able to travel to Egypt due to diplomatic and political restrictions.

Greeting the foundation meeting and expressing its dedication to become a part of the international solidarity, the textile committee in Turkey declared that the workers in the country started to form workplace committees as representative bodies and bring together all workers from different workplaces with local and regional solidarity networks.

The solidarity network in Turkey has also sent a video message to the international network.

Initiated by the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), PE-Textile Workers Solidarity Network has achieved significant victories against the bosses in recent days, defeating İnter Tekstil and Simo Tekstil bosses, both outsourcing for international big brands like Zara, Bershka, Tesco, Marks&Spencer, and who have violated the compensation and wage rights of the workers. Currently, the struggle of Çelik Nakış (Steel Embroidery) workers, who have already received their first achievements, continues.
