All Workers Militant Front (PAME) from Greece has announced that the Front will celebrate the International Day of the working class in all major cities of Greece.

"In the complex and difficult conditions of the pandemic, we must not forget that the 1st of May is a symbolic day in the struggle for the abolition of exploitation of man by man," the PAME statement has noted.

The full statement is as follows:

May 1st 2020: Visible enemy is capitalism – the people will not pay again

In the complex and difficult conditions of the pandemic, we must not forget that the 1st of May is a symbolic day in the struggle for the abolition of exploitation of man by man. We honor the martyrs of our class. The dead of Chicago, in Greece the dead of May Day 1924, of May 1936, the 200 Communists of Kesariani who were executed by the Nazis on May Day 1944. At the same time, 2020 is the 75th anniversary of the World Federation of Trade Unions.

With the events of May 1st, we pay tribute to the thousands of victims of the working class, in our country and around the world, who were exposed to the pandemic of the COVID 19, for the profits of the few.

We are strengthening our solidarity and support for doctors, nurses, those who are waging an unequal battle with the pandemic, due to the huge shortages of public healthcare, created by the criminal policies of all governments in all capitalist countries. Policies that further commercialized Healthcare to support the profitability of the monopoly groups. They sent thousands of workers and people to mass graves like in the United States.

May 1st reminds us of the undeniable truth that the deadliest virus is capitalism!

Goal of the big capital, the EU and their governments is the “extraordinary” anti-workers’ measures taken on the occasion of the pandemic to become permanent. The government and the employers are already preparing to generalize short-time working employment, increase flexibility and mobility of workers. Along with the hefty funding for big business, workers are getting paid for half the work – half the wage, and unemployment is set to rise again.

We are preparing from now for the “next day”, by strengthening our organization in every workplace to demand life and work with rights, to demand all our needs. Workers and peoples neither can nor should we pay again!

PAME’s May Day events will be held with workers raising high the flags and banners of struggle, with workers’ songs, speeches and militant spirit, but with strict implementation of all health protection measures using gloves and masks, as well as maintaining the necessary distances.

This year’s May Day we honor the thousands of dead workers who fell in the relentless struggle with our exploiters. We continue strong in the fight against the EU and the rotten system of exploitation.
