The death toll has reached 92 in Turkey, with 17 deaths in the last 24 hours, due to coronavirus outbreak.

Following the shut down of schools and universities, the public sector has switched to a “minimum personnel” policy in Turkey as a precaution against the spread.

Despite the warnings of the experts saying that the crisis will escalate unless the government decides on a lockdown, Turkish President Erdoğan today announced further travel bans, stopping all flights to foreign countries, “flexible” working arrangements in the private sector, but no curfew and protection plans for the working people.

Erdoğan also called on the people to stay at home and follow the restrictions. Noting that the continuation of the production activities is the most important thing at this time, Erdoğan did not give the details of the “flexible working” conditions, its reflections on the workers’ rights and job security.

The private sector in the country has already started to usurp the rights of the workers. The AKP government has released decrees and circulars based on the continuation of capitalist profit, refraining from mentioning workers’ rights among its measures. The government recently suspended the workers' union rights.
