Ankara expects Trump not to apply sanctions

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu made statements in a TV program on the possible US sanctions.

Çavuşoğlu, who was interviewed in a TV program, said, "The number of different voices in the US has decreased. Trump does not want to apply sanctions. Trump may prevent sanctions and not apply them. This is our expectation. Our President Erdoğan also conveyed this message. Trump keeps his words." 

"In terms of stand-off distance, S-400s are better than the Patriots. We wanted to get Patriot from our allies although it was more expensive, but they did not cooperate," he added.

The minister also claimed that the steps are not clear but in some places, Turkish personnel was prevented.

"We are doing what we should do about the Incirlik-Kürecik issue. But if the US imposes sanctions, we will give the necessary answer. We do not want to implement it, but if the US continues its hostile attitude towards us, we will take steps against this," he said.
