Workers for the Department of Public Works and Engineering in the Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) Municipality of Avcılar, encompassing head chauffeurs, support services and the parks department, gathered in front of the municipality’s building to strike on October 2 as they had not been paid for 90 days.

Almost 300 hundred workers continue their struggle at the same place on October 4, stating that "we are completely fulfiling our duties yet not getting paid or being told when their payday will be". They ended their protest by declaring "We will continue our protest no matter what it takes".

Ali Polat, a worker of the municipality, stated that they have not received their payment for 90 days and have been trying to live on through loans. A father of three children, Polat said that he could not afford their school expenses. He stated that that the municipality’s mismanagement is being attributed to the workers and told the municipality that "If you cannot do it, quit".

This sort of mismanagement has been rampant for a long time. On August 30th, eight subcontracted workers for the Housing Development Administration of Turkey’s had climbed up to hoisting tower to protest their delayed salaries in Zonguldak, claiming that 70 of them had not received their payment for two months. The contractor company asserted that they had paid the salaries to the subcontractor company and the workers’ conflict was with the subcontractor company.
