A 23-year-old worker says that he was forced to work for 4 months without any contract, insurance and job security at the restaurant, in İstanbul, owned by Barcelona player Arda Turan who is now playing on loan for Turkish side Başakşehir football club in İstanbul.

ARDA TURAN'S RESTAURANT: MOBBING, ANTI-LABOUR PRACTICES

"When I went for the employment interview, the manager told me that they would provide me an insurance and contract, yet they did not," the worker told soL News, adding that he and his colleagues were exposed to anti-labour implementations at the workplace.

Despite he appealed to the Turkish Social Security Institution for his labour rights, the worker said that he could obtain no result. "It seems that Arda Turan and his workplace are under protection," he says, implying that Turkish labour institutions favour the rich football star's capitalist enterprise. "One day they phoned me and told me not to go to work anymore. I was fired since I claimed my rights," he points out.

Talking about mobbing, insults, exploitation, maltreatment and unlawful implementations at the expense of the labourers, the fired worker recalls that a female worker faced insults just because she mistakenly put a plate on the table. The worker says that the father of Cemal Sarıhan, the partner of Arda Turan, threw a table on the women worker, tarnishing her honour and leading her to quit the job.

ARDA TURAN: BRAWLER, MACHO AND PRO-GOV’T CAPITALIST

Widely known with his pro-government stance in Turkey, Arda Turan overtly supported President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s 'yes' campaign at the fraudulent presidential referendum in April 2017.

Failed to play any single game for Barcelona in the 2017-18 season, he was loaned out to Turkish Başakşehir club in January as a result of a seemingly "political" transfer since the Turkish side he plays for is known as a project team supported by the AKP government.

Today, as a capitalist entrepreneur rather than a football player, Arda Turan and his restaurant also come to the fore with anti-labour implementations.
