The "haremlik-selamlık" (religious institutions separating male and female individuals in social life) practices of the ruling AKP continue with women-only pink buses launching in the eastern city of Malatya, governed by an AKP-affiliated mayor, in the new academic year.

The new pseudo-solution of the reactionary AKP to the increase in harassment, sexual abuse and violence against women is pink buses.

The Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, governed by a mayor affiliated with AKP, stated that two pink buses would run in Malatya in the new academic year starting in September. It is claimed that a group of women’s university students studying in the city had demanded these buses. The mayor of the city had claimed that university students had initiated a campaign in favour of theses buses.
