The United States seems to have taken a course toward dividing Syria, Russia will ask Washington about it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday.
"The Americans seem to have taken a course toward dividing the country, they simply gave up those assurances that were given to us, that the only purpose of their presence in Syria without the invitation from a legitimate government is to defeat ISIS and terrorists," Lavrov said at a master class for the Leaders of Russia competition.
"Now they are already saying that this presence will remain until they are convinced that a steady process of political settlement has begun in Syria, which should result in a regime change. Plans for the actual partitioning of Syria do exist. We know about this and we will ask our American colleagues how they imagine all this," he said.
