Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça have completed their 100th day of their hunger strike while detained. The two educators have been continuing their strike against their dismissal in the purge that followed last year’s failed coup.

Police raided the two educators' home and detained them ten hours after they signed the papers at the police station on the decision of judicial control on May 22. They were referred to court with the arrest demands on May 23. The two strikers recently face with heart failure risk.

HUNDREDS MARCHED IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE EDUCATORS

On the 100th day of the hunger strike, a rally in Kadıköy, İstanbul was organised in solidarity with the two educators to shout out that they are not alone. Hundreds marched from Süreyya Operası to Kadıköy’s church square. Communist Party of Turkey called for participating in the rally by saying that “Those who demand justice should live!”.

The communists made the call by stating that “Nuriye and Semih’s hunger strike is on its 100th day by June 16. Nuriye and Semih have been the symbol of resisting against all the injustice and unlawfulness of the AKP government not only because they thought about their living and protecting their own years of labour, but also because they thought about tens of thousands of public workers dismissed like them”.

“We are warning the government. You will be responsible for the bad things that will happen to Nuriye and Semih. Give them and the other labourers who were unlawfully dismissed their jobs back. You will not be able to win this fight!”, it added.
