Turkish parliament approved on Wednesday the extension for another three months of the state of emergency declared in the wake of the failed putsch in 2016 against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The move means Turkey will hold June 24 parliamentary and presidential elections, announced by Erdoğan earlier on Wednesday, under the state of emergency.

Parliamentary main opposition CHP party on Wednesday called for an immediate end to a state of emergency, after Erdoğan declared presidential and parliamentary elections would be brought forward by more than a year.
