Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek has said that the time to normalise bilateral relations with Germany has come.

"I think that the time has come to return to the normal relations [between Turkey and Germany]," Şimşek told the Bild newspaper in an interview.

The tension that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling party had had with European powers "cooled down" just recently. There has been a remarkable increase in the number of articles by the pro-government columnists, which anticipate that if the constitutional reform passes, problems between Turkey and Europe will be solved. While this sudden change hints at the negotiations behind the closed doors, it is still unknown what concessions Erdoğan made to European powers.
