Turkish market chain fires workers without compensation pays

Makro market chain fired around a hundred workers in Samsun province of Turkey where the chain has around 22 stores. The workers protested the market chain on August 5 since they were not given their compensation pays.

The workers noted that they were being fired without any notice and any document of dismissal. "We are not able to demand our rights because of this and cannot apply for unemployment pay," the workers said in their statement. They also noted that they were registered to Migros market chain, which bought the shares of Makro, without any notice to the workers.

Makro market chain in Turkey handed over the shares of 23 markets to Migros market chain on March 21. Makro had a total of 253 stores around Turkey, employing 6 thousand and 5 hundred workers. After Makro declared bankruptcy, it fired around 1500 workers around Turkey without paying any compensation.

Makro workers locked out the cash registers in a market store recently in İstanbul province of Turkey to protest their unpaid compensations.
