The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) continues its anti-working class policies. The strike in pharmaceutical company Mefar has been banned by the government, citing public health and national security.

It is the 13th strike that has been banned by AKP since 2003.

The government uses the state of emergency powers for benefits of capitalists, to suspend all rights and to crack down on all government critics.

In his address to business leaders last week, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said: “We blocked the threat of strike with the state of emergency”.

Petrol-İş, the Oil, Chemical, and Rubber Workers' Union, made a statement on the ban and stated the workers will not surrender the strike bans of the government.

AKP recently banned the strikes in banking and metal sectors.
