The president of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, argued that last year’s coup attempt has not been successful in its aim to destroy Turkey’s economic growth.

In a commemoration event one year after the failed coup attempt of July 15 in Turkey, a joint declaration has been made by Turkish capitalists along with several pro-AKP trade unions. The president of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) gave a speech at the event.

Hisarcıklıoğlu commemorated the anniversary of the failed coup attempt by greeting the “soul of July 15”. According to the president of TOBB, the coup attempt aimed to destroy Turkish economy, but the government has been successful in overcoming the Gulenist attack and grown economically. He also argued that “Turkey passed the world’s most difficult stress test”.

Mentioning their gratification about the economic growth in the last year, Hisarcıklıoğlu said that “Turkey grows 5 percent within a year after the coup attempt”. He further argued that a record was set in employment numbers. “We have created employment opportunities for 1 million 200 thousand people. We have prominently increased our exports. We have regained the confidence of international investors”, he added. According to Turkish Statistical Institute, however, the unemployment rate in Turkey has increased by 1.7 within the last year despite the government’s job creation attempt.

CAPITALISTS ARE SATISFIED WITH THE EMERGENCY RULE

Turkish capitalists have been satisfied by the government’s legal regulations for the benefit of them after the failed coup attempt. Although the emergency rule declared after the coup was considered to be disadvantageous for the business world, the AKP government increased its attempts to compensate this to the capitalists.

The AKP government, for example, has ordered the transfer of tens of billions of dollars worth of state assets to a sovereign wealth fund within the last year.

A recent declaration made by the president Erdoğan revealed that the state of emergency declared after the coup attempt and is still effective has been used to oppress the workers by not allowing them to go on strikes.

The Communist Party of Turkey recently made a public statement about Erdoğan’s latest declaration on not giving permission to strikes. The statement included that “the state of emergency is for reinforcing the system of exploitation. It is against the working class. It is for the benefit of capitalists”. Mentioning the necessity of lifting the state of emergency immediately, the Communist Party of Turkey calls for a collective struggle against the emergency rule.
