Turkish Airlines, or THY, intends not to give the set salary raise to its employees despite the conspicuous expenditures of the enterprise. Such expenditures cover; sponsoring famous sportsmen, Batman movie and EuroLeague, and purchasing the 78 million dollars worth VIP plane of the former Tunisian President.

On 28th December, Turkish Airlines general manager Bilal Ekşi visited the trade union of airline workers (Hava-İş) to rule out the collective labour agreement previously signed with the union. The collective labour agreement had estimated 4+4 percent rise in the salaries.

The union chairman Ali Kemal Tatlıbal, on the other hand, regarded the decision of Turkish Airlines indulgently, saying that the withdrawal of salary raise is a "sacrifice" on the part of the workers "in the hard times of the country".

THY IS IN FINANCIAL CRISIS

Recently, local media had reported that Turkish Airlines had to cancel its flights to 22 destinations and park its 30 planes in its fleet. It had been revealed that the average loss of Turkish Airlines amounts to 20-25 million dollars per month.
