The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has nominated Osman Nuri Gülaçar, who had previously been arrested on suspicion of being the top man in Turkey’s Van province for terror organisation al-Qaeda, as a candidate in the parliamentary elections on June 24.

Gülaçar was detained by anti-terror police in Van together with other 16 suspects during an operation against al-Qaeda in 2009. He was arrested by a local court,  released pending trial after two months.

Gülaçar, who is also the son of Ebubekir Gülaçar, a former AKP chairman in Van province, was acquitted by the Van 3rd High Criminal court in 2012.

He is infamous for his pro-Al-Qaeda stance, reactionary statements he made after the Friday prayer and his hate speeches at the meetings.

ERDOĞAN HAD PRAISED GÜLAÇAR, DESCRIBING HIM AS 'A PERFECT PERSON'

Gülaçar, whom Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had praised him saying "he is a perfect person," notoriously came to the fore with a police operation against Al-Qaeda after his candidacy. The police raided his house on January 14, 2014, within the scope of an operation against Al-Qaeda.

Gülaçar had appeared before the cameras on the following day and defended himself by saying that "This operation is an operation in an attempt to wear away at Erdoğan. These operations aim to question the legitimacy of worldwide non-governmental organizations and our government, which they cannot overthrow in democratic ways, by tying them into illegal organizations."

ANOTHER AKP CANDIDATE ATTENDED THE MEETING WITH HIS LUXURY CAR LAMBORGHINI

One of the AKP parliamentary candidates Kenan Sofuoğlu, who is the world champion motorcycle racer, attended a meeting held by his party with his super luxury car Lamborghini.

Sofuoğlu decided to give up his motorcycle career after the Erdoğan’s request in May 2018.
