Turkey's main opposition party asks support of capitalists for 'justice march'

As main opposition CHP leader continues his 'justice march', CHP's deputy chair sent a letter to Turkey's top capitalist organisations for their support and solidarity towards the march. While the capitalists have become richer under the rule of Justice and Development Party, it remains a question how they would resolve the problem of injustices in Turkey

As Turkey’s Republican People’s Party-led (CHP) “justice march” gets closer to İstanbul as its final destination, the main opposition sent a letter to Turkey’s leading capitalist organisations, demanding participation and solidarity towards the march.

Çetin Osman Budak, deputy chair of CHP, invited Turkey’s top industrial and commercial organizations and chambers to the march: the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD), the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB), the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen Association (MÜSİAD), the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK).

The invitation letter reads: “Today, the basis of the state has fallen down due to arbitrary implementations and unlawful judgements. It is impossible for our country to walk towards the future within such a picture. There can be no safety of life and property, investment, production, employment, food or peace in such an environment where justice does not prevail. You are the most informed about this fact. Any kind of support to the struggle for justice and democracy is very important for a valuable and prosperous future. I believe that our business world could not be unconcerned with the most burning questions of our country. In this context, your partnership at any level of the Justice March that will end with a rally in Istanbul’s Maltepe (district) on July 9, 2007, at 18.00 would be an important contribution to a freer, safer Turkey.”

Main opposition CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his supporters have already finished the major part of the 425-kilometer-length “justice march” from Ankara to İstanbul, which will end up with a mass rally on July 9.

CHP ASKS SUPPORT FROM CAPITALISTS WHO HAVE BECOME RICHER UNDER THE RULE OF AKP

CHP chair Kılıçdaroğlu presents the march as a non-party, civilian protest against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) government, thus searches for support from various circles of the society, political arena and business world. Despite the Republican People’s Party calls Turkey’s top capitalist organizations to support the “justice march” against the unlawful practices of the AKP government, it is very well known that the latest "Fortune 500 Turkey" list, which is annually published by the business magazine Fortune, shows that big companies increased its net profit by 48,5% in Turkey. Related data and information demonstrate that the AKP rule serves to increase the profit of big companies while decreasing the purchasing power of the people.

Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Turkey issued a statement on the “justice march”, underlining that the real injustice is the rule of exploitation and exposing the class character of injustices in Turkey. TKP stated, “There is no pursuit of justice without the working class leading the struggle and the workers say: there will not be justice unless we abolish exploitation!”
