The Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned on Monday the undersecretary of the U.S. embassy in the country over Washington’s decision to halt visa services in Turkey.

According to the Turkish media, the undersecretary was told the visa suspension move caused "unnecessary tensions" and should be reversed. Turkey's foreign ministry undersecretary also spoke by phone with the U.S. ambassador on Sunday, reports added.

On Sunday, the U.S. embassy announced the suspension of non-immigrant visa services at the US diplomatic facilities in Turkey over the recent arrest of an employee of the U.S. Consulate General in İstanbul.
