Almost 4,000 of armed forces formed by Turkey’s Gendarmerie Special Operations (JÖH), Police Special Operations (PÖH) and the anti-terror police will be sent to Syria in support of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) at the behest of the Turkish government.

4,000 Turkish police forces will be sent to the regions left to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in Syria at the behest of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), local media reported.

Turkey’s Ministry of Interior Affairs launched its new operations in order to contribute demilitarisation process in the region after the Euphrates Shield military operation conducted by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and FSA; Turkish police forces will be deployed to the places mopped up from Islamic State, pro-government local media asserted.

The goal of the Turkish government by this policy reportedly is to increase the number of local law-enforcement forces which will ‘maintain the order and safety’ in Syria and to transform them into a regular organisation.

JÖH and PÖH which will be two of the components of armed forces ‘maintaining the order and safety’ in Syria are also known with their violence and aggression on civilians in southeastern Turkey as well as ditch operations carried out by the Turkish government against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

In training camps established near the Turkey-Syria border, The Turkish Armed Forces and Special Forces have also provided military training for the FSA for a while against particularly the US military training of the Kurdish-led Democratic Syrian Forces (SDF) affiliated to the U.S.-backed Kurdish armed organisation YPG.
