Turkish police on Sunday detained over 420 suspected members of the Islamic State terrorist group in nationwide raids, including foreigners and those suspected of planning attacks.

State-run Anadolu news agency says that 60 IS suspects, the vast majority of them foreigners, were taken into custody in the capital, Ankara. It says a total of 423 people were detained in simultaneous police operations that spanned several cities, including İstanbul and Gaziantep, near the border with Syria.

Bekir Bozdağ, the Minister of Justice had said that by July 19, 2016, only 7 members of Islamic State were arrested and taken to prison.
