Kemal Öztürk, former General Manager of the state-owned Anadolu news agency and columnist at pro-government Yeni Şafak daily, expressed his disappointment about the failure of imperialist attacks on Syria on April 14, saying "We thought [Syrian President] Assad would not survive any longer, and those who used chemical weapons would be destroyed by the end of the war…"

Late Friday the USA-UK-France launched a coordinated airstrike in Syria, under the pretext of the unsubstantiated international campaign about the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian town of Douma.

"Turkey welcomes the operation, which has eased humanity's conscience in the face of the attack in Douma, largely suspected to have been carried out by the regime." Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Criticizing the statement Öztürk also said: "For days we all have been discussing which humanity, which conscience and which gratification. Even the American media argues that the operation carried out by their own country against Syria was a fiasco."

However, witnesses, doctors and all the residents said that the 'chemical attack' was staged by the jihadist militants.

A Turkish Islamist, chairman of the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), Bülent Yıldırım also expressed his disappointment about the attack due to its weakness, saying "We are not relieved by the missiles. There were too few hits and we think those [chemical] facilities have not been destroyed."

Daily Hürriyet columnist Ahmet Hakan also said "Unfortunately, this operation did not articulate my conscience!", criticizing the ineffectiveness of the US, British and French missiles targeted at Syria.
