Syrian popular forces to arrive in Afrin in coming hours to support Kurds - state TV

Syrian state TV says forces will begin entering the Afrin in the country's northwest "within hours"

Syrian popular forces will arrive in Afrin in a few hours to support the Kurds against Turkish forces, state news agency SANA news agency reported Monday.

"Popular forces will arrive in Afrin in the next few hours to support the steadfastness of its people in confronting the aggression," SANA reported, citing its correspondent in Aleppo. 

The Syrian region of Afrin, which borders Turkey, is held by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) which is facing a month-old assault by Ankara and allied Free Syrian Army (FSA) terrorist group. 

On January 20, Ankara launched Operation Olive Branch in Afrin.
