The Syrian army has uncovered a large chemical lab used by militants to make toxic substances, as well as a workshop for manufacturing mortar shells, in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta, state news agency SANA reported on Friday citing a military source.

According to the source, the lab in the town of Aftris was equipped to produce various types of toxic substances and contained chlorine and protective gear.

The workshop uncovered in the same area was used to make 60-mm, 80-mm, and 180-mm shells, SANA cited the source as saying.
