The Communist Youth of Turkey (TKG) released a declaration on November 7 regarding the investigation launched by the İstanbul University rector office.

The İstanbul University administration imposed an official investigation on 67 students for having attended a commemoration event held on Oct. 10, 2017, for over 100 people who lost their lives due to an Islamic State bomb attack in Ankara in October 2015.

"The police battered and detained 67 students, 12 from the TKP, and continued to insult and attack during the detainment," the Communist Youth of Turkey, the youth branch of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP), stated recalling the government-led violent attack of the police in previous October.

Indicating that the AKP government-led police violence on the students shows the complicity of the AKP to the IS attack in 2015, the Communist Youth set forth that the recent investigation of İstanbul University lacks the legal basis.

"It would be inadequate to describe this situation as the increasing pressure on the left-wing students. This process is apparently an aspect of the AKP and rector-led liquidation operation towards universities," the declaration underlines, pointing out to the government’s plan to turn universities into a rose garden for capitalists.

The Communist Youth accuses the university administrations of acting in line with the AKP government at the expense of science and enlightenment.

Calling on the İstanbul University rector office to immediately halt the investigation imposed on 67 students, the Communist Youth said all the disciplinary punishments imposed during the ongoing state of emergency must be withdrawn.

The Communist Youth concludes that the rector offices cannot act as the servants of the government, and all the bans on the political organization at universities must be lifted immediately.
