Turkey's Directorate of Religious Affairs called Diyanet, which constantly increases its presence in daily life and education, started “preparation to marriage schools” in state dorms, with the motto “Being bachelor is a dead end, you should seek marriage”.

While Diyanet is cooperating with Ministry of Youth and Sports for “marriage schools”, it is also running other campaigns in state dorms, such as “morning prayer meetings”, which forces students to participate in morning prayers.

Diyanet is known for declaring “best career for women is motherhood” and declaring the New Year celebrations as “illicit” before the nightclub massacre in Istanbul.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan favours Diyanet and makes statements that are in parallel to the Diyanet declarations. Erdoğan targeted couples living together without marriage multiple times and said students of mixed gender should not stay in the same places. Erdoğan declared that such residences will be “investigated”.
