Healthcare workers from the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) released a statement and distributed leaflets in front of a big hospital in İstanbul on November 7 against the recently increasing rates of physicians' suicides.
"The transformation program of healthcare costs the lives of healthcare workers. Three physicians committed suicide recently. The profit-oriented transformation in healthcare system leads to the suicides of physicians," the TKP statement titled as 'Devastating privatisation in healthcare' briefs the underlying reasons of healthcare workers' suicidal behaviours.
The communist healthcare workers underline that the transformation process in the healthcare system in Turkey has exposed human health to marketization of services. The statement points out that each physician examines 200 patients every day, corresponding to 1 patient in every 6 minutes and 5700 patients in a year.
Indicating that the governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) will never abandon its profit-oriented healthcare service, the TKP statement sets forth that healthcare workers are compelled to work under heavy and overtime working conditions.
The communist healthcare workers argue that preventive health system must be reorganized completely in order to put an end to profit-oriented implementations with the aim of enabling physicians and healthcare workers to work inhumanely conditions.
"Such a healthcare system cannot be established within the boundaries of existing exploitative order that leads healthcare workers to suicide," the statement continues.
Stating that only under socialism education, health and all the other public services can be reorganised, the TKP calls on all the healthcare workers to get organised in the Communist Party of Turkey so as to build a humanely order and country.
