Immediately after its return to the political scene on January 22, the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) announced a political statement titled “Enough!” against the presidency system imposed by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). However, members of TKP are facing  police oppression since they distribute the party's statement (“Enough”) all around the country.

In recent days, police detained 42 TKP members in total in various Turkish cities such as Ankara, Adana and Çanakkale.

While 26 communists were detained in the Turkish capital city of Ankara, 10 were detained in the western city of Çanakkale, and 6 in the southern city of Adana.

HOW WILL THIS REFERENDUM BE HELD?

Administrators of the Communist Party of Turkey reacted the police oppression with a statement. Indicating that Turkey is stuck on a referendum period amid caprices of a despot man who is still gambling even though his political life has finished, TKP says, “We are not contended only with saying ‘No’ but adding ‘Enough!’, calling the workers for organized struggle.”

Uncovering the hypocrisy of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP) under the mask of popular will, election or referendum, TKP says that AKP is just delegitimizing the referendum.

TKP concluded that the oppression cannot change the stance of the party, and declared once again that it will continue to be the voice of the working class in Turkey.
