Sertaç Bucak, a member of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) movement, Mehmet Emin Kardaş, the old leader of Turkey-Kurdistan Democratic Party and the representatives of the formation have decided to form Kurdistan Democratic Party after a-9-month of an assembly process.

The Turkish government has prided itself on its good ties with the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq's north, with its leader Massud Barzani a frequent visitor to Ankara.

The members of this new formation that has already completed working on its party statute gathered in Diyarbakır. It is reported that the new political party is planning to organise a demonstration in Diyarbakır after completing the legal processes and demands support from the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP).

Sertaç Bucak as one of the leaders of the formation stated that the party statute has been completed and they are going to make the legal application to the Turkish Ministry of Interior at the end of June.

Ankara is still battling a more than three-decade insurgency by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) for autonomy in southeast Turkey. A dozen lawmakers from the pro-Kurdish HDP party, the third largest party in parliament, have been arrested under the state of emergency put in place after the aborted putsch.

Ankara also strongly opposes any autonomous region for Syrian Kurds in the north of Syria that might result from more than six years of intervention in the country.
