After the coup attempt, people started to report their foes as members of the religuous order; the government's former ally.

Since the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP seized the judicial system, many suspects blame the government's targets for their crimes, believing that they will not be punished or will receive less punishment.

Ramazan Kabaağaç (36), killed his uncle Ahmet Kahya (69) last year with the shotgun he ordered online in southern city of Antalya, while Ahmet Kahya was selling fruits and vegetables in the market. After being caught in a short time, a trial with aggravated life imprisonment demand for Kabaağaç has started. In the first hearing session of the trial, Kabaağaç claimed that his uncle was a leader of FETÖ.

AKP calls them "FETÖ", Fethullahist Terror Organisation since their allience with Fethullah Gülen has faltered in recent years.

While lawyers and witnesses were present, Kabaağaç claimed that his uncle argued with him about the organization even before the coup attempt, and on 15th of July, the day of the coup attempt he said “you will see today, we will commit massacres” and claimed that he was one of the leaders of the organization.

“THEY’VE BEEN CHASING ME FROM THE SATELLITE”

Kabaağaç told he was chased from satellite when he approached with his newly bought shotgun to Ahmet Kahya to say “I heard you said that you will kill me and my mother, show me how”, but then 2 FETÖ members came and shot his uncle with panic.

However Minire Kahya, spouse of the deceased Ahmet Kahya, rejected the accusations and said her husband had nothing to do with the Gulen Organization and they were an ordinary family who sells fruits in the market and had no bad blood with Kabaağaç. After the hearing, court decided to investigate the membership of deceased Kahya and inspect the mental health situation of the suspect to determine if he needs to be taken into surveillance.

REPORTING PEOPLE AS FETÖ MEMBER BECAME A NEW VENGEANCE METHOD

Last December, a man denounced his girlfriend for being a FETÖ member when she refused his marriage proposal. In another case, a village representative from Mediterranean city Mersin reported 18 of his fellow villagers not only for being members of FETÖ, but also of the armed PKK group and leftist DHKP-C. Officials also stated that after 3 months from the coup attempt, 40 thousand reports have been made in Ankara and another 21 thousand in İzmir alone, and many of those reports turned out to be false and due to feud or vengeance. Since that is revealed, government forbids anonymous reports.

Gülen's Islamist organization had been a close ally of the then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), helping to redesign and install his Islamic-rooted AKP in power in 2002. Gülen's alliance with the AKP has faltered in recent years.
