Turkish Statistical Institute (TUİK) announced that Turkey's unemployment rate stood at 12.6 percent in the January-March period, falling from a seven-year high of 13 percent a month earlier but up from 10.9 percent the previous year.  The data showed the youth unemployment rate rose to 23.3 percent from 18.6 percent the previous year.

On the other hand, Confederation of Progressive Workers' Unions Research Institute, or DİSK-AR, stated that the real unemployment rate with a broad definition of joblessness is 20.9 percent. This broad definition of unemployment includes a large number of unemployed people who are ready to begin working but do not search for a job and these people are generally neglected in official figures.

According to DİSK-AR survey, the number of unemployed people increased to 6 million 983 thousand in February 2017.
