Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Ömer Fethi Gürer submitted a research motion to the Parliament, stating that the total number of the unemployed university graduates is nearly 1 million.

CHP MP Gürer told that the number of the unemployed university graduates who are looking for a job is more than 500 thousand. He stated that the unemployment rate in Turkey is almost 12% and the number of the unemployed graduates is nearly 1 million in total, with the people who don’t look for a job through Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR).

The Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat) announced on January that Turkey's unemployment rate was 11.8 percent in October 2016, the highest figure since 2010.  The rate of the people who applied for the unemployment benefits saw a 23% increase on January, compared to the same month of the previous year.

Turkish Statistical Institute (TUİK) announced in February that the number of unemployed people are 3.7 million, however, the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions (DİSK) stated that the real figure was much higher.  The research by DİSK showed that the number of the unemployed, including the people who didn’t look for a job, was more than 6.6 million.
