Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) on Sept. 11 sent a solidarity message to Communist Party of Mexico following the deadly earthquake which claimed lives of at least 90 people.

"The deep sorrow caused by the loss of nearly 90 sisters and brothers in Mexico reminds us how socialism is an urgent necessity for humanity. This is because we know that what kills people is not the earthquake but unplanned and uncontrolled housing based on capitalist greed for profit," the statement said.

On Sept. 8 a deadly quake occurred that claimed lives of at least 90 people and left some 2.5 million people in need of aid according to the office of Civil Protection System on the Mexican southern Oaxaca state. About 5,000 homes in Chiapas were destroyed by the quake, and about 11,000 homes were damaged or destroyed in Oaxaca.

"We share your deep sorrow and express our feelings of solidarity with the Communist Party of Mexico and the fraternal Mexican people," the statement said.

TKP said, with its philosophy centred on the human instead of profits, socialism puts not only material wealth but also science into the service of society. "This is why socialism is the name of the sole system that is able to prevent the conversion of natural phenomena that humanity knows for thousands of years into calamities," it underlined.

"With this consciousness, we salute the flag of socialism raised by the Communist Party of Mexico and we have no doubt that the struggle led by your party is the only way to the emancipation of the Mexican working people," it said.

"Down with capitalist barbarity!"
